Free E-Rate Audit — FAQ

What is a BEN?

A BEN (Billed Entity Number) is a unique 7- to 9-digit number USAC assigns to every school district, school, library, and consortium that participates in the federal E-Rate program. Your BEN identifies your organization on every Form 470, Form 471, and FRN.

How do I find my BEN?

You can find your BEN inside your EPC (E-Rate Productivity Center) account at portal.usac.org under your organization profile. It also appears on every Funding Commitment Decision Letter (FCDL), Form 471 receipt, and invoice. If you've never filed before, USAC will assign a BEN when you create your EPC account.

Is this audit really free?

Yes. The audit is 100% free, runs entirely in your browser, and requires no account, no credit card, and no contract. We pull data directly from USAC's official open data APIs. The optional follow-up consultation with a SkyRate consultant is also free with no obligation.

Where does the audit data come from?

All funding data is pulled live from the official USAC Open Data Platform (opendata.usac.org), specifically the FRN Status and Form 471 datasets. This is the same data USAC publishes publicly under federal transparency requirements. SkyRate does not modify or store the data — your audit is generated in real time directly in your browser.

What should I do if my audit shows denials?

Most E-Rate denials can be appealed within 60 days of the FCDL. Common winnable denial reasons include cost-allocation disputes, competitive bidding documentation issues, and discount-rate calculation errors. After your audit, request a free strategy session and we'll review your specific denials and recovery options at no cost.
